Asian Awakening this year was a big success in terms of pleasing the crowd. This year, there were many amazing performances and everyone had a real surprise at what we had performed. We started out with a traditional Lion Dance. Following the Lion Dance was a modern twist to the Lion's routine. Finally, the brothers presented an exotic and effective work out routine to the crowd! All three of these were combined to create an an amazing performance! The video of the performance can be found in the Videos Section of the webpage. Here are some snippets at what happened during the performance:

Our event on drug abuse, which focused on marijuana use, happened this past Thursday on April 8th in Boucke. This program informed the audience on marijuana use, its effects, and how it is used throughout the world, particularly in Europe and Amsterdam. The program lasted for 1 hour long, and a documentary video was presented to the audience.
An update on an event coming up would be our hosted blood drive. This blood drive will be held on Thursday April 22nd at Alumni Hall. Please donate if you can! Each donation will contribute $4 to our THON efforts with teh Red Cross Blood Drive Club. If you cannot donate, volunteering would also be great! Finally, a reminder again that this weekend is our annual alumni weekend. We will be expecting a number of alumni to come back to Penn State. It will be a informative, but yet fun weekend!
March 28th, 2010
March has been a busy month for the brothers of Pi Delta Psi at Penn State. There were many events that we have taken part of. One particular one that we would like to announce that we have proudly done recently was aiding the sisters of alpha Kappa Delta Phi in cleaning up a local highway that they have adopted in the Adopt-a-Highway Program. On Sunday, March 28th, 2010, the brothers and sisters from both organizations spent a few hours cleaning up the liter that has been dumped by travelers. These highways usually run through the habitat of many animals, and this trash could really affect how they live. So cleaning up the trash that has been left there really mean something to many people, including us, because it helps those animals, and it also makes the environment a healthier and better place.

Although March has been busy, there are a few more events that are worth mentioning that will be coming up soon! On April 10th, Penn State's Asian Pacific American Coalition is hosting its annual Asian-Cultural Awareness show called Asian Awakening. In this event, awareness of Asian culture is presented by many organizations, both Greek and Non-Greek, through a performance or two. These performances often feature cultural performances, modern performances, and presentations of cultural issues; these allow the Penn State community to know more about different Asian cultures and what is going on in the other half of the world. The brothers of Pi Delta Psi takes part of this event every year, including this year's. So come check us out; we have an awesome performance ready for you! This event will be occuring during Late Night at the HUB in Alumni Hall, starting at 9pm. Please come out and enjoy the performances!
Two more events worth mentioning: there will be a blood drive that we will be hosting soon and a drug-abuse program. The date and location of the blood drive will be announced later. Please come out and donate! Mention our organization's name, too! Every donation with the mention of our organization will donate $4 to our THON collection through the American Blood Drive Club. The date and location of the Drug-Abuse program will also be announced at a later date. Both events are planned to occur within the next two weeks, so come back and check often for details.
One last event that we would like to announce would occur during the weekend of April 17th. This weekend is dedicated to our Alumni, known as Alumni weekend. During this weekend, many of Penn State's Pi Delta Psi alumni are returning to visit. This is a weekend full of events, such as a banquet, lion shrine pictures, barbeques, workshops for current actives, etc. This will be a fun and memorable weekend, and you might just see us around campus. That weekend shows the dedication and unity that brothers will always have after they have crossed. Brotherhood is for life, and this act of coming back to visit and spend time with us in their busy working schedule after college really means something.
Come check the website after these events occur for pictures and updates!

Pi Delta Ps Tau Chapter has been invited to perform at the WPSU's 18th Annual Connoisseur's Dinner and Auction, featuring Asian Chef Martin Yan. In celebration of Lunar New Year, the Annual Connoisseur Dinner featured an Asian Theme for the night. Although we did not stay long, we put around a 10 minute performance that pleased the crowd. Near the end of our performance, Martin Yan himself played a few beats on the drum! Thank you for inviting us to perform at this amazing event!
Pictures and an online article are located in the Multimedia Section of the webpage. Here is a direct link to the resulting webpage of the event.

Pi Delta Psi wishes everyone here at State College and around the world Happy Lunar New Year! This holiday is celebrated by many Asian cultures and what better way to promote this holiday than perform what we are known here in State College for, Lion Dances! Throughout this week, we will be performing Lion Dances at various locations to help bring luck to the restaurants here at State College and to spread awareness of this joyful holiday. Although Lunar New Year fell on Valentines Day this year and many of the brothers had to return home to celebrate with their families, we still tried our best to let the community know how important this holiday is for the Asian community.
If you wish to come see the performances, listed below is the schedule of the place and time we will be doing the lion dance. These performances only last around 5 minutes, so if you wish to see them, please be there early!

November 4-6, 2009
The brothers of Penn State's Pi Delta Psi Fraternity traveled to College Park, MD this weekend to participate in this year's THON efforts. If you do not know, THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. The purpose of THON is to raise funds for awareness of cancer among children. Efforts to raise money for this cause is done all year round and in the spring, an event that takes place for a whole weekend is dedicated to THON. During this event, organizations who raised money can participate in a Dance Marathon (with some people actually staying up for over 36 hours dancing!).
Although the weather did not agree with us this weekend, we were able to accept a generous amount of donations from most of the residents there.
Great thanks to the brothers of the University of Maryland at College Park for hosting us and helping us out, and thank you Dan "Kratos" Oh for actually helping us by participating during the canning experience.

Pi Delta Psi from the Pennsylvania State University is officially recognized within the Penn State University community and is apart of the Multicultural Greek Council.
